Alan Lasser’s Game of the Week…        April 25, 2009

 

Against Morgan's hedgehog-type defense in the Milford club, I tried three different piece sacs in my effort to break through, but only the final one was actually sound.  The problem with my bishop sac, 17.Bg5, is that there is no mate after 17...Qg5 18.Qf8+ Kd7 19.Rf7+ Ne7 where if I continue  with 20.Qh8 then Black's 20...Qc1+ 21.Rf1 Qb2 puts him back in the game. According to the computer , I kept missing the  mate in 25.  Those crazy computers!   I was glad my opponent resigned before I actually had to find a 25 mover.
