Alan Lasser’s Game of the Week… June 29, 2009
The Orange Club will NOT be meeting on Saturday,
July 4th. Likhit and Avery will be
playing in the World Open and a lot of people are headed for barbecues, so even
if you count the hardcore players, there won't be enough for bughouse.
The Orange Club is still holding its championship
tournament on Saturday July 11. However,
our tournament director has yet to receive his USCF certification so it appears
we will be having a FREE, unrated tournament.
That's right, you don't have to pay an entry fee, you don't have to join
the USCF and and you can still play in a strong game/30 tournament. Registration is now slated for 1:30-2,
followed by four merciless rounds.
Game of
the Week is a little late this week because I was dropping a few rating points
at the June Bethel Swiss tournament.
They charge $35 and play four rounds of game/40 plus time delay. Nathan had a good tournament, scoring two
and a half against two A players, an
expert, and a master.
This
game of the week features the dean of the Milford Club. My opponent is 80 years old, and he plays our
opening with sound judgement. Then,
entirely unfairly, his chess experience leads him astray.

Thousands of games have taught my opponent that
the enemy rook on the open file must be opposed and contested. His move is a
battle reflex, but, unfortunately, premature. (- 13.20) -0.25 14... e6 15. Nf4
